DIY CD Mosaic Purse

Do you have any old CD's or DVD's that you're not sure what to do with? Well this project is the perfect way to use them up while adding some pizzaz to your old accessories.

This project can be done on a number of different accessories, so you can make a handbag and matching shoes or earrings. And since this isn't a traditional mosaic, you won't need to worry about grout, so you'll have virtually no mess to clean up after!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

--CD's or DVD's

--scissors

--strong glue

--handbag/shoes or other accessory

a purse, scissors, DVD's and glue

Now let's get crafty!

INSTRUCTIONS

The first thing you'll need to do is cut up your CD's or DVD's. Be sure to use sharp scissors for this part to make the process easier.

author cutting DVD

Once you start cutting, you'll notice that there are two layers of the DVD. One layer will be clear and the other will be more iridescent, the latter is what we'll be using.

separated DVD

Separate all your pieces and gather up the iridescent ones. You may find that the pieces aren't separating cleanly, this could mean your scissors aren't sharp enough. It could also be the type of CD or DVD that you're using. The amount of pieces that you'll need to cut depends on the space that you need to fill and how many of your pieces stay intact.

Cut up pieces of a DVD

Now grab the accessory you're going to mosaic and plan out your design. Try out different placements to see what looks best. You can even get creative and make a detailed mosaic if you have different types of CD's and DVD's. Letters, numbers or simple symbols will be the easiest to execute, but use your creativity!

When you've decided on a design, you can grab your glue and get started gluing them into place. Be sure to use an extra strong glue to ensure that all your pieces will stay put. I used Shoe Goo, but brands like E6000 or Gorilla Glue would work too.

Once you've got all your pieces glued on, you're done!
